The EWG Nature Lab, modeled after the Edna W. Lawrence Nature Lab of RISD, gives its high school students a genuine and more objective form of reference. While pictures can be used to motivate quality of a work, the nature lab takes a giant leap forward into the area of reference concerning proportion, function of an object, and the simplicity of natural forms. Presently, the lab is constructed of numerous oceanic shells and exoskeletons, movable animal skulls, textured feathers, and other abstract objects. The accessibility of these references enable the students to directly handle the objects to get a more in-depth perception of form and function. Overall, the lab focuses on the beauty of the natural, pulling forth a student's appreciation for nature.
