Welcome Back for the 2023-2024 School year
This method will cover Android devices, iOS users will simply need to select “Allow” when connecting their phone to the ChromeBook. Please note that none of your files are actually moved to the Chromebook, they are only viewable on the Chromebook.
Android:
Chrome OS supports something called “MTP file transfer”, which means that it can treat your phone storage as an external storage device and move stuff to and from it just like a USB-drive. Here’s how you can transfer files between your Phone and Chromebook.
Connect your smartphone to your Chromebook using the USB Cable. As soon as you connect your smartphone, you should see the notification ‘Connected as a media device’. Tap on that and make sure the Media device (MTP) option is checked.
(Skip to the section marked “Both”)
iOS (iPhone/iPod/iPad) :
Connect your device to the Chromebook with the USB cable. On the phone, select “Allow”
Both:
On your Chromebook, the Files application should automatically pop up, displaying the contents of your phone’s internal storage. If it does not, select the symbol in the lowest left corner of your screen, then type “Files” (Without the quotations) and open the program.
Notice the “XT1068” (this will display the model number of your phone) folder on the sidebar of the file explorer. The internal storage of the phone will be accessible through this folder. If you have an sd-card inside your phone, that will show up as a separate line on the sidebar. Inside these folders, all your phone’s stored files will be accessible. You can copy and paste files from them just like you would when using a pen-drive.
Your recordings should be inside the folder labelled “DCIM” and you will need to locate the file to upload from there. When you locate the file, drag and drop it into your “Downloads” folder. When you are back at school (you may also do this at home if you wish), you will drag and drop that file into the Google Classroom assignment.
