Renewable energy is power that comes from renewable sources. There are 6 main types, the most popular being, solar, wind, and hydro. Our project focuses on the hydro-energy, but will always work best with all three of these sources.
Our project is engineering-based. People already use wind and solar power in their homes, but what about hydropower? It's a simple question. In some parts of the world, water flows hundreds of times a year at high speeds down an average rain gutter. A one-inch rain event can bring 500 gallons of water onto a home roof of 1,000 square feet. Unfortunately, this is mechanical energy that is being literally washed down the drain.
Larger hydro turbine systems can be expensive to purchase and install. They don't save enough power in the beginning to make it worth it until months after installation. Installing a small hydro turbine at the base of your rain gutter system, you get easy installation and quick turn around as soon as the rain starts coming down!
