What is Trauma?

Traumatic experiences can affect a person’s life by disrupting their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Trauma can occur after events like: accidents, natural disasters, abuse, relationship violence, combat, etc. Experiences like these can make individuals feel depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, detached, unsafe, and insecure. Traumatic events can also affect a person's physical health by causing sleep problems, chronic pain, digestive issues, and other complications. Trauma will also affect a person's work life, day-to-day functioning, relationships, and quality of life.
