Harmony Elementary School saluted veterans with each grade level giving a special presentation. It was a great way to honor those who have given so much for our community and our country.
Marrion Elementary School celebrated family and community during an assembly last month. Several veterans shared stories about their service and of loved ones who served. Students had the opportunity to read poems and sang together to show their love and support for our veterans.
Students, staff and families at Sunset Elementary School honored veterans last month by singing songs, reading tributes and with a special flag presentation from a local Cub Scout troop .
Frontier Middle School honored veterans with an assembly featuring music performance and speeches that were focused on thanking veterans for their service and sacrifice .
Thank you to Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle for attending the Covington Middle School Veterans Day Assembly. The Mayor’s speech, along with some great music, paid tribute to our veterans.
Smiles, high fives and support all around! Pioneer Elementary School celebrated World Kindness Day. Students and staff all made sure that everybody felt special and appreciated, but really, that's everyday at Pioneer!
For the sixth time in the last decade, the Evergreen School Board has been named a Washington State School Board of Distinction. As part of the Washington State School Directors' Association recognition process, Board members Julie Bocanegra, Victoria Bradford, Ginny Gronwoldt, Rob Perkins and Rachael Rogers demonstrated a clear link between their leadership and closing gaps that impact student success - including the district's recent rise to a 91% graduation rate.
Our Harmony Elementary School Huskies helped give back to the community through the "Helping Hands" project at The Quarry Senior Living. Students shared the experience of reading and story telling with the seniors as part of their ongoing community outreach. Thanks to the Harmony Elementary PTA for coordinating this event!
Middle school students from around the district headed to Mountain View High School to attend the La Chispa Latino Youth Leadership program. The event fosters leadership in our middle school Latino student population. The event hosted about 200 middle school students and 20-30 MVHS Latino student mentors.
What a day! Over 250 5th-8th graders discovered chemistry, engineering, animal behavior, medical science, aviation, robotics, game design, and many more STEM subjects at Girls in STEM (and Boys too) at Heritage High School (Vancouver, Washington) on November 9, 2019.

The School Board presented the quarterly Evergreen Awards to deserving employees and contractors at last month's meeting. Those nominated and selected by their fellow employees included: Legacy High School Registrar Debbie Molden and Secretary Michelle Hawkins; Covington Middle School School Psychologist Kelsey Richter; Frontier Middle School Special Education Team consisting of Brian Hanson, Michele Kerr, Maria Black, Terri Kunkel, Kristen Mann, Jerrika Spangler and Marshall Pendleton.
ABM Janitorial honored Sifton Elementary School Day Lead Custodian Tara Hidgon and district Night Supervisor Grady Wellborn. Chartwells K12 recognized Burnt Bridge Creek Elementary School's Kitchen Manager Wendy Cutler and Ellsworth Elementary School Kitchen Manager Debbie Delprato.
Henrietta Lacks Health and Bioscience High School (HeLa) had a food drive last month. Several students and volunteers came in on a Saturday to pack up food and nonperishable items to be delivered to a homeless shelter and food bank. There was plenty of donations, HeLa was able to restock their own pantry.
October was National Bully Prevention month. Burton Elementary School celebrated their second annual Unity Day on October 23rd. They wore orange, traced their hands, had classroom discussions about bullying, and wrote positive messages about kindness, acceptance, and inclusion on their paper hands.
The Heritage High School DECA Club Officers, attended the Fall Leadership Conference and Competition last month. Savannah Kelly senior at Heritage High School entered the Business Pitch competition, sponsored by AT&T. Kelly presented her idea (Deaf Safe) of creating a class for first responders to learn basic ASL so they could communicate with the deaf population. The Deaf Safe ten minute pitch received second place and Kelly received a $500.00 travel scholarship. The Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC mascot stopped by to talk soccer, sports and more importantly share a personal story on why he loves to read.
Mountain View High School and the whole school community embraces the Thanksgiving holiday by helping to provide over 100 meals and more to families who could use a little help.
