Evergreen High School is the proud winner of Barry the Bear, as they were chosen as the winners of the first ever Battle of the Bear. The participation for both Evergreen and Mountain View was outstanding. The cheering, the music and the dancing was non-stop during the girls and boys basketball games at Evergreen High School. Congratulations to both schools leadership students who did an amazing job promoting this first time rivalry event to their school communities. They will do it again next year at Mountain View!

Crestline's fifth grade is currently hosting Salmon in the Classroom in partnership with Columbia Springs Outdoor Education Center and thank you to the sponsorship of Clark Public Utilities. In the fall 10 fingerling salmon were raised and released into Salmon Creek. In early January we hatched 200 salmon eggs in our tank. They are currently in the alevin stage. They are hanging out on the bottom of our tank, slowly absorbing their egg sacs. The tank is covered, with only a small window for peeking. In February they will begin swimming and eating. After they have grown and developed into sturdy little fry, we will release them in the late spring. The fifth graders help feed the fish, clean the tank, and monitor the water quality in the tank. All our students get to visit the tank and watch the salmon develop.

As final exams approached and stress levels went up, students in Mountain View's American Sign Language (ASL) classes received a welcome and heartwarming surprise this month: a visit from Sullivan, a Deaf therapy dog trained to provide comfort and emotional support. Sullivan, accompanied by his handler, spent time with ASL students during class, offering a calming presence during one of the most demanding points in the academic year. The visit was designed to help ease anxiety, promote mental well-being, and create a moment of connection and joy for students preparing for finals. What made the visit especially meaningful was Sullivan's Deaf identity, which aligned closely with the focus of the ASL program and Deaf culture. Students were able to engage with Sullivan using visual communication and gentle tough, reinforcing lessons about accessibility, inclusion, and the diverse experiences within the Deaf community. Therapy animal visits have been shown to reduce stress and improve mood. Sullivan's presence did exactly that. Laughter, smiles, and quiet moments of calm filled the room as students took turns interacting with him. The visit highlighted Mountain View's commitment not only to academic success but also to student wellness. For many, Sullivan's appearance was a reminder to slow down, breathe, and approach finals with a little more confidence and a lot less stress. As students returned to their studies, Sullivan's visit left a lasting impression, proving that sometimes the best support comes on four paws.
Students created a Kindness Tree with hearts filled with inspirational and supportive messages. The students researched poems and song lyrics to include on their hearts. February is National Random Kindness Month.
Ms. Lookingbill's Kindergarten class has adorable flamingo artwork on display at Seize the Bagel throughout February. This special art project was completed in partnership with Police Activities League of Southwest Washington (PALS) and a middle school volunteer.
