Field Trip Checklist
Complete Pre-Lessons
o Recommended to complete Lesson 1, Parts 1 + 2
o Recommended to complete Lesson 2, Part 1
o If time allows, it is best to complete all pre-lessons and parts
Send home and collect Field Trip Permission Slips
Send home Student Letter to Families
Notify school nurse (backpack, medications, 504s, etc.)
Notify school cafeteria (request “grab & go” snacks, secure “grab & go” lunches)
If applicable, coordinate 1:1 aide for students with special needs
Secure chaperones and collect back Volunteer Packets following EUSD policies
o Send chaperones the Nature Collective Chaperone Guidelines
o Required ratios is 1 responsible adult per group (approximately 1:10)
o This includes all teachers and volunteer parent chaperones
Split class into groups of 8-12 students
o Place non-media release students in 1 group
o Make nametags (Tip: color code the groups)
Remind students to dress comfortably, with closed toed shoes, and in layers (jackets)
Remind students to bring a water, snack, lunch, and sun protection
Remind students of behavior expectations
Pack student science notebooks and pencils
o Print and glue in copy of Lagoon Observations Sheet

Save precious field work time by pre-printing Lagoon Observations Sheet. Glue or staple both pages into science notebooks so students are ready for the field trip.

9:15 a.m. Arrival to San Elijo Lagoon + Nature Center
9:30 a.m. Restroom + snack break
9:45 a.m. Ecosystems in Action Program commences
12:15 p.m. Return for lunch + visit to Nature Center
12:45 p.m. Bus departure from San Elijo Lagoon
1:30 p.m. Arrival to school site
