Establish a morning routine - Help your child get up early enough so that he/she doesn't have to race to get online. Be sure that your child starts every morning with a healthy breakfast. When kids start their day hungry, it's hard for them to focus on their work.
Gently remind them to do their best every day - Attitude and effort make a huge difference and the best results happen when kids come ready to work hard and have fun learning. If they know that their education is important to you, it will be important to them too.
Help them develop great schoolwork habits - Have a set time and a quiet place for your child to focus on their schoolwork. ( I will provide the schedule for synchronous and asynchronous learning times. ) Encourage your child to do his/her personal best and turn in their work when it is due.
Talk to them about what they're learning - Ask them what they learned in school and ask them to tell you about their favorite part of the day. Give them your full attention and be easily impressed with their achievements, especially when they show improvement. Your support, encouragement and enthusiasm motivate them to do their very best!
Read to them, and have them read to you - Help your child select an age appropriate book that he/she wants to read and take turns reading out loud to each other. Even if your child is reading the pictures or retelling a favorite story, this helps build reading skills and strengthens listening skills. Most kids love to do this and you'll enjoy it too!
Establish a bedtime routine - Get your child in the habit of going to bed early enough to allow for adequate sleep. When kids don't get enough sleep, it's hard for them to focus and keep up. Set up a routine of ending their day with a calming activity like reading and looking forward to another fun day of learning!
