Hello Rainbows! I cannot believe it's my last week with these rainbows! I have to force myself to not only focus on the chaos and joys of the end of a school year with the class, but also appreciate each moment as this is my only child's end of Kindergarten as well! The best part of my job is getting to see all the growth each kiddo makes, and I am so proud of each student. Thank you again to all of the parents and families for your support, patience, and trust with handling your child's school year. Please say hi anytime you see me next year!
End of Year Kindergarten Celebration (Wed. 6/3)
Our Celebration is THIS Wednesday, June 3rd beginning at 9:40 and lasting until about 11:00 (although it usually ends earlier). The kindergarteners will perform several songs for you on the amphitheater behind the stage. Families are invited. Plan on bringing lawn chairs or blankets to sit on in the grass. If your child wears a dress at the celebration, make sure they wears shorts underneath.
Your child may then go home with you afterwards to continue the celebration. I'll have a check out list with me, so please be sure to sign it before leaving with your child. *As always, please let your child know the plan. If you will not be taking them home after the show, make sure they know that!
Field Day (Thursday, 6/4)
We have field day shirts for the class! A couple of our amazing parents collected/bought white shirts, tie-dyed them rainbow colors, and added labels. Your child can just come in some light layers on Thursday, and we will put the class shirt on top! (If you didn't donate a white shirt, please reach out to our room parent Diana to donate to the cause: Diana.siler14@gmail.com)
Report Cards
The Wednesday folders will go home on Thursday this week, with your child's report card. I'll be handing them out in the morning and having them place everything in their backpack.
Library Books
Those that have library books still checked out will receive a notice in their "homework folder" (even though homework is done for the year!). Be sure to return the book with your child or to the front office this week - report cards are given to students who don't have any outstanding library .
Summer Reading & Work
Teachers always talk about the summer slide that happens to students over the summer (where skills gained during the school year diminish over the summer months). It mainly happens to those that do not practice their reading skills. Don't let your child show that summer slide! Please read with your child daily. Using the Summer Reading packet I sent, have your child read one passage a day, 3 times each. If they are not fluent after that third read, revisit that same passage the next day before moving onto the next one. As a parent, I have also found that the Summer Bridge workbooks are great for a little bit of daily practice in both reading and math throughout the summer. I buy them for my own kiddo every summer and try my best to have them do a page most days of the summer, at the least on the days we don't have much going on. You can find them anywhere - including Barnes & Noble. And, keep reading to your child. The modeled reading of a sibling, parent, grandparent, etc, builds their background knowledge, vocabulary, comprehension skills, and acts as a model for how fluent readers read.
Transition to 1st Grade
Is your child nervous about 1st grade? Check out this sweet slideshow that our school counselor created to ease some nerves and answer common questions.
Have a colorful week!
