The following must be completed in the order listed
All requirements on the "Home" page AND your "Program" page must be read and understood thoroughly before starting any of the steps listed.
Some of our externship students are required to complete Complio Clearance prior to beginning an
externship program. Each program has different Complio Clearance requirements. Please
see details on your program page.
If you are currently set to begin your approved externship, please see the link to the
Current Externship form and additional required steps below. You can not begin your
externship until this form is filled out AFTER receiving approval for your placement.
*All externship students START HERE. All of the steps and requirements listed on this page apply to ALL externship programs.*
*Please read all sections below to understand essential externship procedures and standards of practice.*
At Escondido Adult School, we strive to serve our students by providing quality programs with opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge to further each student's career and academic goals.
Our health and medical programs provide a comprehensive curriculum with modern, industry-based standards to prepare students for the workforce or to attain the needed vocational training to advance their careers. An externship placement gives students the opportunity to put their learned knowledge and skills to practice under the guidance of working professionals during a hands-on training experience.
*Please note* Students who have not paid tuition in full and/or completed the minimum attendance hours required for their program; will NOT be considered for externship placement.
Please take note of the following stipulations before beginning an externship experience:
We encourage students to seek an externship placement if:
They are ready to take responsibility to read, follow, and complete comprehensive instructions and tasks before, during, and after an externship. Students who do not demonstrate an ability to follow instructions and complete tasks requested will not be placed in an externship.
They best represent our school and our programs. We will not place students in an externship who do not demonstrate a basic level of maturity or responsive work-ethic. We will not jeopardize our reputation, our business partners, or the safety of patients with students not fit to perform the duties expected during an externship.
They believe an externship will provide the best hands-on experience to advance their health & medical career goals.
The facility they would like to complete an externship with is an employer they would like to work for.
If you would like to complete an externship at a specific facility, outside of what your program already has established, we encourage students to begin contacting that facility before they complete their in-class program.
This will allow us to potentially process an externship placement by the time a student completes their coursework.
Students are required to be covered for worker’s compensation and liability insurance through the Escondido Union High School District during their externship hours.
This requires each business partner to agree to an Affiliation Agreement contract that must be Board of Education approved and held in good standing with the EUHSD business services department.
Processing a NEW Affiliation Agreement takes 2-8 weeks depending on:
When the request is drafted.
How long it takes for signatures to be rendered by both parties.
When the contract is placed on each month's EUHSD board agenda for possible approval.
However, many local health and medical facilities in our area have already established an Affiliation Agreement with Escondido Adult School and can place externs as soon as available.
Our business partners do not guarantee the availability of an externship placement, nor does Escondido Adult School.
We do our best to keep track of all externship placement opportunities available at any given time but, depending on each facility's employment needs, changes in staffing, or shifting internal protocols, they may not be able to place externship students.
For these reasons, we do not provide a list of facilities we partner with. But, we do provide information for currently available externships our business partners are seeking at present.
An externship placement is not a right; it is a privilege.
We will only place students in externships who demonstrate professional behavior and work ethic.
Externships are placed on a first-come, first-serve basis for those students who follow all procedures and protocols listed on this website and in their program.
We highly recommend students begin researching and contacting facilities they are interested in to establish a connection and possible placement.
We will NOT have externship placements available for all students in all programs at any given time. The healthcare industry is a highly fluctuating and evolving industry and many facilities may request dozens of externs at any given time throughout the year and then, not allow any externship placements for the rest of the year.
If you don't want to leave your placement to chance, start introducing yourself and asking for placement from facilities on your own!
Students have one year from the date they complete their program to complete an externship with EAS. However, many facilities only fill externships seasonally so the externship you seek may not be available if you decide to wait to start.
EAS has the right to refuse externship placement services to any student that does not comply with EAS Externship protocols, does not demonstrate professional behavior, or does not meet acceptable health & medical industry working standards.
If you are interested in potentially completing an externship:
ALL Students MUST complete the Externship Request Form.
You will not be considered for an externship until this form is filled out completely and correctly.
If you are a student who already has arranged for potential placement with a facility OR is seeking to establish your OWN externship placement, fill out the form, and when prompted if you have a facility select, "Yes" and you will be prompted to provide the following information.
The full name of the facility
The full name of the facility contact person
The facility contact person's Title. (Must be specific, not just "manager" "employee", or "nurse". We need the contact to be someone authorized to sign legal contracts for the facility like the "Regional Manager", "Supervising Nurse", "H.R. Director", etc.)
The facility contact person's workplace phone number and workplace email address.
The facility's email address and the physical address of the location you wish to be placed.
Students must submit a resume to be considered for externship placement.
You will be provided an opportunity to upload your .pdf resume when filling out the Externship Request Form.
We will not accept .doc, .docx or Google docs.
Please try to limit your resume to one page and include relevant, current information only.
Please seek out resources online OR our EAS Employment Skills Canvas Course if you are not sure what a professional resume in the Health and Medical field looks like.
If your resume contains egregious spelling or grammatical errors, we will not include it when soliciting placements from our business partners.
After filling out the Externship Request form:
Proceed to your program page to begin clearance and additional requirements for placement.
