To keep the project manageable the intention is to use 3 x 5 minutes videos and add 3 answer choice as well as 3 open-ended questions to these
There are 10 question types available
For each question type you'll find an instructional video on how to use the question type here
Although there are 10 question types, some question types are more flexible than others and can be used for a range of purposes e.g. Multiple Choice questions allow for Binaries, Clines, Statements, Single Choice Questions, Survey Questions.
"Fill in the Blanks" is a Cloze Question type that allows for the addition of answer choices and distractors
"Drag Text" requires one to one matching of answer choices to gaps. That means the question type is less challenging and more prone to problems e.g. if the same word/ element needs to be used more than once.
For open ended questions, we will be using a Google form embedded on the video to allow for feedback and marking.
Following on from answer choice questions with an open-ended question makes the EVA more manageable for both teachers and students. Possible companion questions could be: Explain your answer choice/ Point out the errors in the incorrect statements/ Recommend a course of action based on your conclusions etc.
You do not have to complete tasks before moving on and can use Bookmarks, Crossroads or Hotspots to skip ahead or go to a different part of the video.
EVA basic was not designed for interactivity, but by inserting links interactivity can be achieved.
You can use either bookmarks or Crossroads to jump ahead.
This video does a very short overview of tools. It shows an easy way of "clipping" a video - starting well into the original recording and indicating the end point using a bookmark.
This video shows examples of use. The format is condensed and it may be a good idea to use it to jump to a specific tool you need need an example for. This can be done using Bookmarks
There is also a detailed text based instruction manual for the use of interactions in EVA. You will find it here
We are all working on EVAs created from the short film "Inner Workings" (Disney, 2016) this morning
By clicking on the title above, you will also get to the materials page
Open a new tab and log into etv.org.nz, using your own login or use the slip of paper to log into demo.etv.org.nz. Navigate to E Link.
Create a workspace and give it a title: e.g. Head vs Heart
Use "Add media" to add the Inner Workings Video to your workspace. Just start typing the title and it should pop up as an available file.
Open the video in EVA .
Open the materials page for "Inner Workings"
If you have too little time, only do tasks for interactions that do not require external content to be uploaded or linked.
If you have a little more time you can also:
Upload an image file, you want to insert into the EVA, to "My Content" on ELINK
Copy the URL for a hyperlinked online resource (one you cannot save as a file to your hard-drive), e.g. Google Form, hyperlink to a video etc. and add to Related Media on your workspace. This can be done by clicking "Add new Related Media" selecting Link, pasting the URL in (better to highlight http:// and replace with the whole URL to avoid double-ups) and adding a short description to Link desc before saving.
Complete the tasks, using the resources imported to your workspace. For all media and clips, that need to be added to your EVA, you can simply "create a view link" (available in the options when you open the resource in the workspace) and insert that link into the EVA at the appropriate point.
Once complete, please:
Use "share with creators" and paste the resulting link to your EVA onto this Google Form.
If you get horribly stuck and confused, just ask Gretchen. If you are trying this after the workshop, email gretchen.badenhorst@etv.org.nz
Please provide feedback and help us to improve the usability of this workshop here.
