Dual Enrollment meeting presentation from Sept. 2 is now posted in Schoology
Elizabethtown Area High School's Dual Enrollment Program allows students in grades 9-12 to get a jump start on college while still attending high school.
Dual Enrollment is when high school students take college classes. The students are enrolled in high school and college at the same time. It allows for advanced course work, the opportunity to earn transferable college credit, enables a wide variety of electives, eases the transition to college, and is cost-effective as many colleges offer a reduced tuition rate.
While students can take dual enrollment courses at any post-secondary institution, EASD has developed partnerships with a number of local colleges.
Grades 9-12
Grades count toward HS GPA
1.20 weighted grade
A maximum of 5 courses can be taken between grades 9-12 from accredited colleges. If students desire to take more than 5 courses, they must identify which courses will count toward GPA prior to enrolling. All other courses will be for enrichment purposes only and will not count toward the final GPA.
Each dual enrollment course can count as 1 high school credit. If additional dual enrollment courses are desired that make the total requested high school credits greater than 8 per year, then the additional course will count as enrichment and not toward HS GPA. The enrichment course must be identified prior to the course beginning.
The course must be taken during the academic year for the grade to count; courses taken over the summer will be counted for enrichment and will not count towards GPA or high school credits
It is the student's responsibility to contact colleges they are considering attending after high school to determine if the dual enrollment course will be accepted for transfer credit. Taking dual enrollment courses does not necessarily guarantee transferable credits.
Failed dual enrollment courses may need to be remediated and could cause the student to be ineligible for graduation.
