The vision of the Etowah City School Counseling Department is to assist ALL students in acheiving their academic, social-emotional, and career goals necessary to become empathetic, intentional and involved citizens.
As school counselors, we are required to maintain the confidentiality of each student with the exception of self harm, harm to others, abuse in any way, or have a court order to disclose information.
The mission of the ECS School Counseling Department is to create a comprehensive school counseling program in which students recognize the importance of not only their emotions, but also those of their peers. ECS is commited to setting an example of healthy communication and providing a place where students feel safe and comfortable to seek help. We are determined to connect them with appropriate resources that help when we cannot. In collaboration with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders, we seek to ensure that the students needs are met both in and outside of the school building.
Diversity is the practice of including students from a different range of backgrounds, cultures, gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. Diversity is important at Etowah City School so that we can reach ALL students without any sense of discrimination. Every student is equally as important as the other, and we make sure EVERY student feels included.
All ECS employees (and any TN resident) are required by law to report any cases of suspected abuse or neglect. It is the responsibility of any and all staff members to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the Deparment of Childrens Services and the appropriate administration. Failure to report may end in termination of employment, revocation of their certification, and in Tennessee, failure to report suspected abuse is a Class A misdemeanor and is punishable by up to three months, a fine, or both.
"a student missing 10 percent or more of the days the student is enrolled-for any reason, including excused absences and out-of-school suspensions. Excessive absences from school represent lost instructional time for a student. "
When students miss school, they are missing valuable time learning not only academics, but social skills as well. We want to make sure your students get everyhing they need from school, but that starts with them being here!
