Students are expected to attend all classes, rehearsals, and concerts. Each day, their attendance will be marked with one of the following:
Unexcused Absence: An absence with no prior notice
Excused Absence: An absence that was communicated and pardoned in advance
Tardy: A late arrival to a meeting
Forgot Instrument: Instrument is not at school for a meeting
Present: Student has all materials and is ready to play for class!
Three unexcused absences or forgotten instruments will result in a student and parent meeting for a discussion about future ensemble participation.
Any absence from a performance will result in an immediate meeting.
Students will be assessed on their abilities to play an excerpt of music with accurate Rhythm, Pitch, Intonation, and Musicality once per month. During the exam, students will be given a score from 1-4 in these categories. These scores will only be shared with students and guardians as a measure of student progress and a guide for at-home practicing.
Successful completion of the exam (75% score or higher) will earn a colored ribbon to be worn on the instrument case or backpack in accordance with the Rainbow Challenge.
