My name is Tom Sprengelmeyer, since my last name is very long I usually just go by Mr. Tom. I am one of the automotive technology and engineering teachers in the Career & Technical Education Department at ETHS. I teach all 3 levels of our automotive courses as well as an engineering course. These courses are Auto Tech 1, Auto Tech 2, and Introduction to Engineering Design. Feel free to ask me any questions about our automotive or engineering programs!
I am a proud alum of ETHS as well, class of 2008! After going through this auto program I knew that I wanted to work with cars in some way for the rest of my life. When I graduated, I continued my education at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where I continued studying automotive technology in the 4-year bachelor of science program. I also studied welding, metalworking, and art. I wanted to find a way to share the passion I have for all of these subjects with others, so decided to become a teacher. Once I completed college I knew there was only one place I wanted to teach, so I came back to Evanston and set my sights on ETHS. In the fall of 2016, I took over for my former automotive teacher and good friend here at ETHS, and here we are today!
Some interesting things about me are that I am also a certified art teacher and love making sculptures out of scrap metal, clay, wood anything really anything I can find. I enjoy building things and woodworking is a favorite hobby of mine. Finally, I really love dogs and have an awesome dog named THOR, he’s an English Mastiff and weighs 200lbs!!!
