Fundraising & Philanthropy

What is the Fundraising & Philanthropy Committee?

We raise money at school events by selling food, t-shirts, and collecting donations. We then donate that money to a local organization. Our goal is to bring Evanston parents and students together to support organizations and causes in our community.

We also have $3000 to give away to an Evanston organization every year! This annual donation is given to us by the Rose F. and Alice M. Koffend Foundation. We begin by asking our club members what causes they want to support. We get advice from a professional philanthropist, who speaks to us about the criteria for giving grants. We research local organizations that serve the causes our members are passionate about, and interview a couple of them every month. They tell us about themselves and pitch to us what they would do with our money. At the end of each year we make a decision on how we should divide up the money between the organizations we decide deserve it the most. Our final event is a presentation of the checks to these organizations. This event is attended by representatives from the organizations, the foundation who gives us the $3000, and even Dr. Witherspoon!

What Do We Do?

One thing we do each year is sell taffy apples and CSC t-shirts at parent teacher conferences to raise money for a different organization every year. We also have philanthropy meetings each week where we decide how to donate the $3000 we get each year.
