On October 6, 2025, I presented Better Connections: Connecting with Upper Grade Students Through Thoughtful Instructional Strategies to the ESUSD district office. The session focused on practical ways to build stronger engagement and deeper learning with upper-grade students. I shared how the Leitner System can make spaced retrieval more manageable in the classroom, and how tools like Gimkit and Blooket can be enhanced through ChatGPT to create personalized, adaptive review games. I also demonstrated how AI can be used as a supportive “thinking partner” to help students reflect, persist, and learn from mistakes. The goal was to show how a mix of research-based strategies and modern technology can help students take ownership of their learning while keeping class time interactive and meaningful.
