Spelling

Information about Spelling:

We have classroom spelling lists every other week. (We rotate between Spelling and Vocabulary).

Students take a pretest (18 words with a spelling pattern focus) on Fridays/Mondays depending on time in class. The pretest words are listed as the "original list" on the document below containing the spelling lists.

From the results of their pretest, they build their personalized list (12 words) for the week using the missed words and adding challenge words. This personalized list of 12 words can be found in your child’s agenda. Go to the current week and you'll find a box to the side that is dedicated to the words of the week.

Students then work through spelling tasks using the "Get to 50" contract (included below) during the week with their personalized lists during class time. They will complete this work in a dedicated small composition book provided to them. If any portion of their contract work requires the use of a computer, students are responsible for printing out that work and pasting it into their composition book. If they do not finish the work during class, they will be responsible for completing the work at home over the course of the week (this is similar to the policies students will see in middle school). 

On Fridays they are assessed on their personalized list. Their graded spelling test will go home the following week.
