Honey Gubuan has proudly served the East Side Union High School District for over 23 years and is now in her fourth year as Principal of James Lick High School. She began her educational journey as a first-year teacher at William C. Overfelt High School and went on to serve at Santa Teresa and Independence High Schools. At Santa Teresa, Honey collaborated with the Social Studies team to improve curriculum alignment. At Independence, she played a key role in strengthening Ethnic Studies, developing district frameworks for Social Studies electives, expanding access to digital resources, and enhancing collaboration and professional development for teachers.
After 16 years in the classroom and serving as a Subject Area Coordinator, Honey transitioned into administration. She served as an Assistant Principal at Piedmont Hills and later as Associate Principal of Educational Development at Evergreen Valley, where she focused on student and family outreach, academic counseling, equitable instructional practices, and increasing access to AP and Computer Science pathways.
Honey holds a B.A. in Political Science and Asian American Studies from UC Santa Barbara, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of the Pacific, and an M.A. in Educational Administration from San Jose State University. She is driven by her unwavering belief that all students can succeed and has been a unifying force in the ongoing work of implementing equitable, student-centered practices across the district.
