On Friday ASSETs sponsored Battle of the Schools - MP, JL, WCO, and AH - as well as showcased many of the ASSETs programs across our 4 schools. I hope it will be the first of many since it was such a good time! It brought our four schools together through programs, culture, games, and school spirit! Thank you to Telebrico, Zabala, Leo, Mia, Mari, and Anthony for getting our kids together and putting in the work to participate in the showcase and programming of the evening.

The travel bug hit some Comets over Spring Break! Thank you to Ms. Ramirez and Ms. Chavez for taking 6 of our Comets for an unforgettable trip to Washington, DC and New York. They were able to visit lots of historical and cultural sites and make many lasting memories.

Huge Congratulations to our very own Jachin Thilak for winning the national award for Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow competition. Jachin's project which was advised by our own Mr. Wu, and partners from Stanford, was the only high school that recevied that level of recognition. Because of their award, Jachin wins $100,000 worth of Samsung products for our school. Congratulations Jachin and Mr. Wu! Please check out their video and photos below.

On Saturday our campus was host to our district's 4th annual Pistahan Sa East Side - a Filipino festival - in collaboration with Oak Grove, Andrew Hill, Santa Teresa, Evergreen Valley, Gunderson High Schools, and Bernal Intermediate. Our Comets represented so well, truly a proud moment. Special Thank You to Lacanaria and Estranero for heading this amazing event. It was truly was an awesome community project! Can't wait for next years!

Our amazing students had the opportunity to take a field trip! Students who are A-G eligible and earning a 3.5+ GPA for 2nd grading period were invited to attend a UC Berkeley tour complete with lunch at their dining commons (40 attended).

On Friday, October 3, our Football Teams sent us out into vacation with the biggest win of the season ! Both JV and Varsity teams brought home the bells - from San Jose's 2nd longest running rivalry game - James Lick vs. Andrew Hill.

Two of our students earned a free bike and full accessories after participating in the City of San Jose's Walk n' Roll's Summer Bike Clinic. Minh Thao Pham and Ngoc Hung Pham earned their Park Tool mechanics certificate and some bikes! Here is a picture of them receiving their new bikes on Friday.

On Friday, our Leilani Cortez Ramirez officially signed her letter of intent to play soccer for the University of Arizona. Leilani will play D1 soccer at UofA on a full-ride scholarship. It was a heartfelt and emotional celebration on Friday afternoon. Congratulations to Leilani!

Congratulations to the Girl's Flag Football for the first victory in James Lick Girl's Flag Football history, beating Piedmont Hills 12-7 on Thursday afternoon. Samarah West threw two touchdown passes, the first to Izkra Gomez, and the game-winning touchdown to Ashely Nieto. Bella Palomino and Alex De Los Santos also contributed on offense. The defense, anchored by Iris Gomez, Juliette Bradley, Angie Alvarez, Rkkarrcya Levingston, Daisy Gonzalez, Giselle Chacon, Carolyn Tran, and Marlie Haro, sealed the win with a defensive stand to end the game. Great job Lady Comets!

They learned a lot of valuable leadership skills, met a ton of student leaders from the district, and are super energized to lead our campus spirit and engagement this school year!

Masah Kikhia, has won two awards from the Synopsys Silicon Valley and Technology Championship! Masah placed 2nd under the category of Physical Sciences. She also won 3rd place and $25 from American Vacuum Society.
