🎮 Mini-Unit: Game World Builder
📄 Student Handout
Minecraft meets Geography!
You get to design a game world based on a real country.
Your Mission:
Pick a Country
Example: Japan, Brazil, Egypt, Ireland.
Research Geography
What’s the land like? Climate? Landmarks?
What are famous foods, festivals, or sports?
Build the World
Draw a map, build with LEGO, or design in Minecraft/Roblox.
Add cultural features (temples, stadiums, markets).
Create NPCs
Add characters who share fun facts.
Give a Tour
Walk someone through your world. Teach them geography through play.
End Product: Playable map + oral “tour.”
Bonus: Add a challenge/quest for your world (ex: collect foods, play soccer in a stadium).
📘 Teacher Guide
Objectives: Research real-world geography/culture; synthesize into interactive design; explain choices to others.
DOK/Bloom’s: DOK 3 (research/analyze), DOK 4 (create world + tour), Bloom’s analyze/evaluate/create.
Materials: Atlases, books/web, LEGO, Minecraft/Roblox access optional.
Differentiation: Allow analog builds/drawings; push advanced to include economy/trade simulation.
Assessment: World includes accurate geography + cultural representation; student explains design choices.
