⚽ Mini-Unit: Epic Soccer Science
📄 Student Handout
Can you kick a ball on the Moon?
Today, you’ll be a sports scientist + inventor!
Your Mission:
Test Soccer Physics
Bounce a soccer ball on grass, dirt, concrete, carpet.
Measure kick distance at different angles (10°, 30°, 60°).
Discover the Science
What forces are acting? (gravity, friction, air resistance, momentum)
Invent a New Ball
Design a soccer ball for Mars, underwater, or Minecraft.
Sketch or model it — explain why it works in that world.
Advertise It
Create a comic, commercial, or poster to convince players your ball is best.
End Product: Invention design + creative ad.
Bonus: Play a mini-game with your design (cardboard, paper prototype).
📘 Teacher Guide
Objectives: Explore Newtonian physics in sports; apply scientific reasoning to design; communicate through creative formats.
DOK/Bloom’s: DOK 3 (test & analyze), DOK 4 (design invention), Bloom’s apply/create/evaluate.
Materials: Soccer balls, measuring tape, stopwatch, protractor, art supplies.
Differentiation: Adjust experiment complexity; for advanced learners, introduce energy equations or momentum.
Assessment: Science explanation + invention design + creative product.
