How did Women Rising help support my success?

Women Rising helped support my success by introducing me to women who were successful in their field and wanted the same for us. The forum we attended, full of successful women sharing their ideas, goals and accomplishments with us collectively was empowering. I attended a 12 week workshop for financial literacy and workforce development, which helped me garner tools I needed to succeed in those areas. The weekly meetings filled with other EMCC students and advisors were a forum for encouragement, positivity, fellowship, information on community happenings, and goal sharing and applying. I am grateful to have been a part of this group. There are friendships I started there that I still have today!

How did Women Rising help support my success?

I was a first generation student that was very unfamiliar with the college process. Women Rising was my favorite place to connect with others because I was able to learn so much from my peers and the club advisors. We had sessions that covered college related topics like the application process, but also sessions that focused on self-management that taught me a lot about myself and what I as an individual need to do to be successful. I also feel a big part of how Women Rising helped me was through the scholarship/application workshops where we all got together and worked on applications together. Those workshops led to multiple awards, multiple scholarships and an acceptance to ASU's Barrett's Honors College!

What advice do you have for the incoming Women Rising students?

Take the time to connect to those around you. Many of the staff and faculty have amazing pieces of wisdom because they also value the education journey. Everyone is happy to help so do not be afraid to ask for their advice or perspectives.
