The history of Native Peoples in our region is often told from a European/American-centered context. In this workshop, we will center Native voices as we examine stories from pre- and post-contact periods that enrich our understanding of the past and help us empower students to grapple with this history’s complex legacies.
This workshop examined:
• What are some misconceptions about Native Peoples and the contact period in our region?
• How can critical examination of sources from the region’s past as well as contemporary voices inform our understanding of how to approach this topic with our students?
This program was made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation.
