Annual Conference 6th, June 2024

On June 6th, 2024, the Annual Conference of the Leadership and Diversity Chair took place. This year was particularly intense, as the Professional Products Division (PPD) of L’Oréal, which assigned this year’s mission, emphasized not only enhancing inclusivity and diversity for professional beauty brands, especially in the curly hair product market; but also leveraging technology to increase inclusivity in the beauty industry and how to bring inclusivity for end consumers. The students presented their months-long work in front of the L'Oréal jury.


Annual Conference 6th, June 2023

On 6th June 2023, the Chair students gathered at the  L'Oréal – Seine 62 campus for the final presentation of the projects that they had been tirelessly working on for the last 6 months. The ceremony started with a brief introduction by Jean Claude Le Grand and Junko Takagi. This was followed by the 4 presentations on DE&I strategies for brand expansion of NYX Professional Makeup.

The Chair students will be eternally grateful to L'Oréal and ESSEC for providing them with this indelible opportunity of designing DE&I strategies for developing inclusive consumer experiences and broadening their horizons.  

Annual Conference 28th, June 2022


June 28th, 2022 marked the Annual Conference of the Leadership and Diversity Chair as it reached its 15-year maturity mark. The mission assigned to our student group was to take YSL Beauty's inclusive efforts to the next level. Through five viewpoints, LGBTQ+, Representation, East vs West, Inclusion vs Exclusion, and Ageism, the students brought to life DEI strategies to level up YSL Beauty's brand image and efforts.

In response to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, we are in need of innovative initiatives to tackle Systemic Racism, which refers to "the system of structures that have procedures or processes that disadvantage racial minorities and particularly black people" Students this year launched five projects: Minority Leadership, Minority Entrepreneurship, Colorism, Employee Resource Group and Access to Mentorship to address different aspects of the issue and provide concrete suggestions. Each of us can make a difference, but together, we can make a change.

Annual Conference 17th, June 2021


The Annual Conference of the Leadership & Diversity Chair was held online on 17th June 2021. In reaction to the Black Lives Matter movement, students of the chair will be tackling the issue of systemic racism from five perspectives: Colorism, Recruitment, Internal Culture, Minority Leadership, and Minority Entrepreneurship with a focus on the United States and France. 

Annual Conference 16th, June 2020 

The Annual Conference of the Leadership & Diversity Chair was held online on 16th June 2020 due to the sanitary crisis. 

The students presented their project around their chosen notion of Diversity & Inclusion along with their own experiences and actions to take based on their research. They also presented their project presentation videos before the speeches. 

Annual Conference 6th, June 2019 

The Annual Conference of the Leadership & Diversity Chair was held on 6th June 2019 at the L'Oreal Headquarters.

The students presented a TEDx style talk around their chosen notion of Diversity & Inclusion along with their own stories, experiences, and actions to take based on their research.

Annual Conference 22nd, June 2018 

The Annual Conference of the Leadership & Diversity Chair was held on 22nd June 2018 at the L'Oréal Headquarters.

The students had built upon the MOOC executed by the previous batches and have successfully established it on Coursera. The notion of Diversity & Inclusion along with MOOC was further communicated on all social media channels to raise awareness.

Annual Conference 31st, May 2017 

The Annual Conference held on 31st May 2017 marked the 10-year anniversary of the ESSEC Leadership and Diversity Chair. It was attended by senior executives from L'Oréal, ESSEC administration, the interim Dean of ESSEC, Chair Alumni and friends. The students had built upon the foundation of the MOOC laid by the previous batches and have successfully published it on Coursera. The positive results from the organic growth of the MOOC were presented along with an action plan for the future.

Annual Conference 13th, June 2016 

The Leadership and Diversity Chair Annual Conference was held this year on Monday, June 13th at the L’Oréal Luxe at Levallois in the presence of Jean-Claude Legrand, Senior VP Talent Development and Chief Diversity Officer at L'Oréal. It was attended by L’Oréal managers, ESSEC administration, and Chair alumni and friends. This year’s students collectively presented the Diversity and Inclusion MOOC that they have been creating as their group project in a very dynamic Quiz Show format. The presentation was conceived to represent the MOOC experience. The Diversity and Inclusion MOOC will be launched in October 2016 and is particularly targeted to graduating students and young professionals.

Annual Conference 10th, June 2015

The Annual Chair Conference held at L'Oréal headquarters in Clichy. This year’s theme was ‘The importance of focusing on social and ethnic diversity in our workforce: A Global perspective’. Students worked on projects to generate ideas for the diversification of recruitment pools and to enable qualified talent from underprivileged communities to access work in five regional zones around the world. They presented their work to L’Oréal managers and guests. Based on these projects, we have created a brochure to introduce managers to social and ethnic diversity in countries studied.

Annual Chair Conference 27, May 2014 

Globetrotting Generation: What Lessons for Leadership?

The 2014 Annual Chair conference was facilitated by the co-chair, Professor Junko Takagi of the Management Department and brought together Linda Brimm, Emeritus Professor of Organisation Behavior at INSEAD who has worked with Global Cosmopolitans, and Frédérique Scavennec, VP Talent Acquisition at L'Oréal, and Joanne Dreyfus, audit partner at Deloitte, representing the two partner firms of the Chair.
