Founded in 1855, Uvalde, Texas is a small city about 80 miles from San Antonio. Home to about 15,000 people, this city has a tight-knit feel, where no one is a stranger. On May 24th, 2022, at approximately 11:21 am, things changed for the worse when Salvador Ramos shot and killed 19 elementary school students alongside 2 teachers and injured many more at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

As the year comes to an end, many traditions have been happening including senior breakfast, senior walk in, and ESM day. All of these traditions occurred this year on June 3rd. All of these are organized by staff and administration. While talking to the principal, Mr. Avellino, we were able to get answers about all of these traditions.

Gordon Gallery is one of the Class of 2022 valedictorians. When being asked about how it feels to be one of the valedictorians, he said, “It’s a huge honor, and it really helped me to realize the great community I have to support me. I definitely couldn’t have done it without the many people who guided me, especially my parents and family.”

If ESM Senior, Emily Ferns, one of the Class of 2022 valedictorians, can describe the past eight months of her senior year in one word it would be, “relieving.” Usually, I am very overwhelmed and stressed by school but this year was much calmer for me, personally.”

Giulietta Hofmann-Tuff is a 2022 graduate pursuing cosmetology after high school. Giulietta has taken cosmetology for the last two years in ESM’s cosmetology program to obtain her license to work in a salon after graduation. She plans on branching out to become a zoologist veterinarian because of her love of big animals, specifically big cats but wants to have cosmetology under her belt as a safety net if things don't go as planned. She would like to stay local to continue this path but is willing to expand to different areas if she needs to grow.

Not too long ago Netflix streamed the show Ginny and Georgia. It first appeared February 24th, 2021. It was declared the 6th greatest show to watch on television within that year. Ginny and Georgia is produced by Claire Welland, and filmed in small towns of Ontario, Canada.
