Ah! The freedom of summer. I hope your family makes the time to REST, RELAX and READ! Most importantly I hope your children find books that they ENJOY. Reading skills are built when children listen to books, examine illustrations or images, and when they read for pleasure. Within each grade level reading skills and interests can vary tremendously, so our book lists are designed to help you and your child find “just right” books that interest them and that are neither too hard nor too easy. It is important to remember that great readers don’t progress systematically from easy to difficult books. Rather, they read with curiosity from a wide variety of genres and formats. Even as readers progress to more and more difficult texts and required reading assignments, they will often revisit comfortable and familiar picture books, comic books, and fairy tales. I hope you will encourage all kinds of reading and take time to get to know your reader through his or her book selections. As always, I am happy to help with more suggestions. Mrs. Clark
