Jason Bradley Deford ( jelly roll) was born December 4th, 1984. He is a multi-genre singer, with his song "Son Of A Sinner" featured at the CMT Awards in 2023. He also won New Artist of the Year and was nominated for Best New Artist of the Year at the 66th Annual Grammys. He grew up in a small neighborhood in Nashville, Tennessee. His dad worked as a meat salesman, and his mom suffered from mental illness and drug addiction.
Jelly Roll was baptized at the age of 14 years old, but around that time, he started with his drug addiction and alcoholism. He stopped going to church and lost some of your faith. He was arrested several times for various felonies, including aggravated robbery. While he was incarcerated, he earned his GED at the age of 23 years old.
Jelly Roll launched his career in hip-hop after being inspired by many. He sold his mixtape out of his car in 2003, then followed with the four-part Gamblin' on the White Boy series from 2004 to 2011. His 2010 collaboration "Pop Another Pill" was one of his biggest hits yet.
Jelly Roll won for Male Video of the Year, Male Breakthrough Video of the Year, and Digital-First Performance of the Year, all for the song "Son of a Sinner".
In January 2024, Jelly Roll testified before the U.S. Congress in support of anti-fentanyl legislation. Explaining his perspective as a former distributor of illegal drugs, Jelly Roll stated before the U.S. Senate, “I was a part of the problem.
