Mrs. Sabados

About The Librarian:  Mrs. Sabados

My name is Karen Sabados, the Waterbury Librarian.   In the summer of 2015, I decided to make a change:  to move from 12 years as a third-grade teacher to the Waterbury librarian.  It’s fun to work with all students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  Here is some information about me!

I was born in Japan and I have moved ten times to various cities in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and most recently, to Illinois.  I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  I majored in Early Childhood Education and earned a minor in Spanish. After college, I moved back home to Saline, Michigan. I taught first grade and lived with my parents, 6 brothers, and 2 sisters!  After that, I decided to relocate to Illinois and was so lucky to be hired at Waterbury.  This year will be my fourteenth year! In 2008, I received my master’s degree from National-Louis University.  I have my Reading Specialist certification, and this knowledge will be useful as I guide students to find books and teach about authors, genres, and technology.  When I’m not teaching, I enjoy reading, working out, going to movies, making scrapbooks, and traveling with my husband, Chris.  We have a twelve-year-old son named Michael and a nine-year-old son named Benjamin.  Our sons are so much fun and they keep us laughing!
