Walking to School Safely

Dear Head Start Parent,
This will be a wonderful year for your Head Start child. Children are very excited about starting school and will need your help to arrive safely. In the interest of your child’s safety, we ask that you consider the following:
• Read the Walking to School Safely booklet to them several times
. • Buckle your children in a seat belt or approved car seat when riding in the car. It’s the law
. • Keep your children near you as you cross the parking lot. Drivers that are backing up may not be able to see a small child.
• Don’t let your children run from the building ahead of you. Children can run toward the parking lot and into the path of a car.
• It is not safe to leave small children unattended in the car. Please bring your children into the building while you sign in or sign out your Head Start child.
• Never leave a child in a car that is running. Children like to pretend they are driving and will be tempted to put the car into gear.
Thank you, The Head Start Staff
