Discovery Education (DEX) has many instructional resources & tools (much more than just video), however, this is what is recommended by DEX, first:
The INSTRUCTIONAL INSPIRATION channel – the large collection of grab-and-go online lessons These can be copied, customized, and shared with teachers and students through the Discovery platform or by direct link. These can also be integrated into Google Classroom.
STUDIO (purple box at the top of the home page) – this is a very simple-to-use online interactive SMORE-like lesson building tool that can be used to create self-paced or live interactive online learning modules. It is designed to work seamlessly across all devices (computer, tablet, or smart phone) and has a live teacher-controlled chat feature that the teachers and students can use to interact. This is the tool used in the lessons found in the Instructional Inspiration channel, but can also be used to create lessons from scratch with any media – media from the Discovery vast library OR media that you upload from your own device.
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES – this is a collection of 200+ strategies that are short, simple, and many that could be easily translated to an online learning environment.
The Discovery Media library – this is what you’re probably most familiar with. Click the SEARCH icon at the top – you can search by keyword OR if you “search for nothing” you’ll see everything in the library and you can filter by grade band, media type, topic, and many other characteristics using the filter panel on the left.
Content in Discovery is sharable by direct link, so easy to embed in any online tool, document, email, etc. Just look for the … icon for the media or resource that you’re using and select “share” to grab a permalink or use one of the predefined sharing tools.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING – Discovery has great resources on the site to help your teachers get started if they haven’t used DEX before. Once logged in – click the green PROFESSIONAL LEARNING box at the upper left and then the LEARN & LEAD tab to find STEP BY STEP GUIDES and INTERACTIVE COURSES.
ALSO – note that since Discovery integrates into Google Classroom, teachers can quickly and easily create lessons with this tool and share with their students.
