Basic Steps for All
It's never to soon to get organized and get noticed. Here are a few suggestions high school students can do to get prepared for life after high school:
Create a Personal Email Address
It is important that you use your personal email address on anything that you will need AFTER high school.
Pro Tip: Make sure you are using an email that you would be ok sending to someone you respect. Companies consider this when hiring, selecting scholarship recipients, and even determining whether to accept you into their college or program. Good email example: johndoe@gmail.com Bad email: hottboy2023@gmail.com
Create an Email Signature
How you end your emails is most likely how people will remember you. So, your signature should contain essential elements such as your personal name, contact information, social media accounts and company information (if this applies to you.)
Reasons to have a professional email signature:
It looks professional
Makes it easer for people to contact you
Brings you new social media followers
Shows your personality
When you include your name and picture, it makes your emails trustworthy by showing your recipients with whom they are corresponding
Keep Your Social Media Clean
Every post, comment, like and retweet is a reflection of you. You want to represent yourself well! Recruiters, colleges, scholarship presenters and even future employers look to see what kind of person you are outside of your application.
Write Your Username and Passwords Down
Write them down in a safe place. It can be frustrating when you get ready to begin working on an application but have to spend several minutes resetting your password.
