ESTAR/MSTAR Screener
Elementary Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (ESTAR) and Middle School Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (MSTAR) Universal Screeners
The Elementary School Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (ESTAR) and Middle-School Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (MSTAR) Universal Screeners (US) are an online formative assessment system administered to students in grades 2–4 (ESTAR) and grades 5–8 (MSTAR).
The purpose of the ESTAR/MSTAR US is to help guide instructional decisions in relation to students’ readiness for algebra. The results can be used to help teachers determine if students are on track for meeting curricular expectations for algebra readiness.
Administration Windows
Universal Screener
The 2024–2025 administration windows for the ESTAR/MSTAR universal screeners have been scheduled as follows:
Fall: August 12 – October 11, 2024
Winter: January 6 – February 7, 2025
Spring: April 14 – May 16, 2025

ESTAR/MSTAR Diagnostic
Elementary Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (ESTAR) and Middle School Students in Texas: Algebra Ready (MSTAR) Diagnostic Assessment
The ESTAR/MSTAR Diagnostic Assessments (DA) are administered only to students identified through the ESTAR/MSTAR US as struggling with algebra-readiness. The DAs are used to identify why students are struggling with algebra-related instruction and to provide information to plan supplemental instruction.

Winter: January 13 – February 14, 2025
Spring: April 21 – May 23, 2025
