What is Assistive Technology?

It is any item, piece of equipment, or products system whether acquired commercially or off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities - Public Law 105-17, Section 602(1)

Assistive Technology

AT must be considered at every ARD. 34 CFR §300,346(a)(2)(v) - The IEP Team also shall...(v) Consider whether the child requires assistive technology devices and services.

Assistive Technology Devices and Services

must be made available if required as part of a child's special education, as a related service, or as supplementary aids and services - 34 CFR§§3005.6 and 19 TAC §89.1050

What Do We Do?

We loan assistive technology equipment on a "try before you buy" basis to school district and charter school personnel in our ESC Region 13 Service Delivery Area.
