We are thrilled to start the new school year in our new space. Along with the latest dance space, we have added two more courses to the dance department. Students may choose to take Dance I, Dance II, or Ethnic Studies Dance.
Students focus on learning movement fundamentals through the dance elements of time, space, and energy. Students explore basic dance techniques that are applied to various dance genres, including ballet, modern/contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, world dance, and health and wellness. Students work on various choreographies and have opportunities to perform in and out of the classroom.
These courses fulfill the A-G requirement for either VAPA, PE, Ethnic Studies, or Elective credit
Dance I and Ethnic Dance Studies are beginning courses; no experience is required. Everyone is welcome to join! If you have experience dancing, Dance II is the class for you.
In Ethnic Studies Dance, students learn about cultural, political, and social aspects of society through dance. (i.e., Mexican Folklorico, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Pan-Asian, social dances, and more).
The images and video snippets below provide a glimpse of the work students have been practicing.
