Guidelines for Creating “I” Statements
Create using student-friendly language
Begin statement with “I” followed by a verb -- ie. I use paragraphs when I write expository or narrative text
Use language of the discipline in the statement
*For younger grades, wording can be changed to allow for understanding ie. “...oral, print and other media texts” can be changed to “...read, see and hear or write, draw or tell”
