My name is Ms. T. I am a media specialist in an elementary school. This site was developed as a teaching tool for educating my students about the reality of GOOGLE. With all the "Fake News" out there it is important to teach them that they cannot believe everything they read. I got this idea from the website "All About Explorers" which I have used in the past. I wanted to teach the topic of evaluating sources with a more current and relevant subject matter. Our students are studying Black History month and we just became a STEAM school school so this is an opportunity to bring it full circle.
Because I want to make a point about finding useless information even in a site which looks at first to be fairly well put together, these biographies are fictional. While many of the facts are true or based on truth, many inaccuracies, lies, and even downright absurdity are mixed in indiscriminately. As such, it is important that you do not use this site as a source of reference for your own research!
Any references to outside source materials, however, are quite accurate to the best of our knowledge. Books and other print materials are listed throughout. In most cases these are the references we give to our students when they are looking for reliable information about these women. Links to other web sites have also been evaluated for accuracy and usefulness.
