Behind the Desk: An Interview with Our Principal
By: Ronan M.
Hi, my name is Ronan M. Last week, I interviewed Ms. Desmarais. One question I asked was, “What did you do over the summer?” Ms. Desmarais answered that she went to Colorado with her friends. She said they went hiking in the mountains and saw lots of really cool sights.
The second question I asked was, “Why can’t teachers give out candy anymore?” She replied that there was a change in Connecticut state laws and school rules, so now teachers have to follow new guidelines.
The third question I asked was, “Are we planning to put in a playground for the school?” She said no, but she told me that student council is planning some fun stuff instead. They want to put in 9 square, a 4-way volleyball game, and clean up the baseball diamond so kids can play kickball. I think that sounds really fun!
What Can't Mr. B Do?
By: Dean F.
I got the chance to interview JRMS's very own tech assistant and these are his answers to my questions.
Q: Why do the new kids get computers with touch screens?
A: Every year they order a new batch of touch screens for the new kids.
Q: Why are most of the websites restricted, even educational games?
A: His answer was that Connecticut has very specific privacy laws.
Q: How does the server determine which websites are banned and which ones aren't?
A : AI and staff members determine if the websites are dangerous so maybe there will be more websites in the future.
Q: In the future will there be less websites restricted and his
A: Every week people tell the websites if they will sign a contract saying they will not use students information.
Q : Should the students be expecting something new on the computer and the his answer was
A: As long as someone requests an app people have to make sure the app is safe so maybe there will be new things coming to the computer
Q: If you could say one thing to the students about the chromebooks what would you say
A: Mr. B’s answer was, “ take care of your computers.”
Interview with Tevel Stadler-Sokal, 5th grader: “I think that students should be allowed to bring in props with their costumes. It helps the overall effect, and there are certain costumes that wouldn’t look good without a mask or specific prop.”
Interview with Silas Leahy, 7th grader: I feel like they should bring props within reason. Students should be allowed to bring in, like, a trophy, or maybe a mask, but not like, a sword. Or a gun.

Halloween
By Trinity A.
This Halloween, Andy did not want to go trick or treating, she thought that she was too old for it. Andy told her mother that she won't do Halloween this year. Her mother told her that she should go because she wanted to be a cheerleader this year. Andy said “but I dressed up like that last year.” Her mother told her “you are never too old for Halloween.” Andy was going to answer when her dad walked in,”Time for school” he said. Andy’s mother told her that they will talk about this later. “Have a good day Andy” her mother said when she was getting on the bus. She sat down next to her friend Sam. “Andy, what are you going to be for Halloween?” Sam asked. I thought about it and then I said “Oh nothing I am not going to go trick or treating this year.” she looked at me and said “what? Why? halloween is the best?’’ We were at school and our teacher was telling us that halloween is tomorrow. An hour later when I was at lunch, I was sitting with my 3 friends. They were all going to be dressing up for Halloween. The next day,the whole school had halloween decorations hanging everywhere, and everyone was dressed up in costume. When school had ended and I went home, I found my sister was in her costume. She was going to be a princess.
An hour later when my mom and sister came back, they had so much candy. Then my mom said “Sammy we still can go get candy if you want to.” I asked my mom if she still had my costume, she said yes. Then I asked if we could go after I put it on. That year I got a bucket full of candy. I was glad to go trick or treating and I learned that you are never too old to go trick or treating.
Boo
By Alice S. and Charlotte S.
Once there was a ghost named
Boo
And he was a bad ghost
At night he would be mean to any ghost
and every ghost
One night on his birthday
All he wanted was
To be mean to one dumb ghost.
So he went off to go find one.
After a lot of searching Boo finally found
the stupidest ghost ever.
He started to run over to the ghost
But the ghost said stop without realizing it Boo stopped.
“Why?” asked Boo
There was silence then the ghost answered
“Because”
“Because what”
Said Boo impatiently
“Because” the ghost paused “its kind”
Boo realized he stopped moving but did not care.
He turned around and went home.
Boo was lying in bed thinking
“Sure its kind but it’s also my birthday and all I want is
To be mean to a stupid ghost”
So the next day he went back to see the ghost.
This time the ghost told him to stop and think about
What he is doing.
Boo thought and thought but he did not know.
“You can go home if you want."
Said the ghost
So boo went home
When he got home and
Thought finally he found
The answer!
“I’m doing this for fun.” he said
Then he went to
The door he did not
Want to be mean any more so he went
Back to the ghost and said
“Do you want to be my friend?”
And the ghost said “yes!”
