A Note From Dr. Pogonelski

It wouldn’t be a true New England winter without a few snow days sprinkled in! ❄️ While the snow gives us a chance to slow down and reset, it also marks an important time of year in our schools. As we move into the late winter months, our teams begin thoughtfully planning for student transitions to middle school and high school. In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find an overview of our transition planning process, including how our Planning and Placement Teams (PPTs) collaborate with families and receiving schools to ensure continuity of services, strong communication, and a smooth, confident start in the next chapter of your child’s educational journey.

Best,

Dr. Meghan Pogonelski

Community Resources

Bring Me Back Home.

This resource was shared by a parent from ER9. Bring Me Back Home (BMBH) is a new registry for Connecticut residents that allows law enforcement access to information to assist in the recovery of missing or wandering persons. The provided information and photo, accessible through the COLLECT criminal justice and safety system, helps first responders and families reunite with individuals living with cognitive challenges, such as Dementia or Autism. This information is confidential and secure and can only be accessed by law enforcement personnel in an emergency. Please click the image below to register.

Invitation to Participate in CSDE SRBI/MTSS Focus Group

The CSDE is partnering with SERC and the RESC Alliance to provide updated state guidance for Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), an evolution of our current SRBI Guidance Document.  Educators are invited to participate in focus groups to share their perspectives on the current implementation of MTSS in schools and districts.  As state guidelines and supplemental resources are being updated, your voice is essential in helping to shape a shared vision that reflects the strengths, needs, and priorities of Connecticut’s school communities. These focus groups will provide an opportunity for practitioners, PreK-12, to share lessons learned, offer feedback, and contribute ideas that will inform the evolution of state guidance and development of implementation resources moving forward.  We value your insights and encourage your participation in this collaborative process.  Participants are asked to register for one virtual focus group session on a date and time that works best.

The available sessions are:

    • Friday, February 27, 2:30-3:30

    • Monday, March 2, 10:00-11:00

    • Tuesday, March 3, 2:30-3:30

    • Friday, March 6, 1:00-2:00

    • Monday, March 9, 8:30-9:30

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to supporting positive outcomes for all students. We look forward to learning from your experiences and working together to strengthen the effectiveness of SRBI/MTSS implementation across the state.
