Welcome to The Hub Website!

The Hub at Mearns Castle High School is a new department and resource within the school that was created in November 2021. The main aim of this department is to support the positive mental health and wellbeing of all pupils within the school. Pupils can pop in to The Hub anytime to speak to someone if they need support with anything, or it can be a space to come and hang out with friends at break and lunch time. The Hub also offers a range of targeted and universal wellbeing activities which you can find more about below.

We hope that the resources on our website will be an additional support in helping young people and their parents/carers to find information, tools and strategies to help support positive mental health and wellbeing.

What Do We Do At the Hub

UNiversal

The Hub staff work in liaison with parents and the Pupil Support Department in the school to identify pupils who may benefit from more focused input. A range of support can be offered such as: 1 to 1 meetings using a person-centred counselling skills approach; using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach through the Living Life to the Full programme; practicing mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

targeted

A range of Universal activities have been devised and embedded across the school, such as after school clubs, exam support workshops, self-care booklets, contribution to PSE lessons, Be Kind to Your Mind Week activities and many more. This allows wellbeing to be a central part of our whole school ethos, and provides an opportunity for everyone in our school community to be involved.

What is mental Wellbeing?

Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.

World Health Organisation, 2014

Good luck to all of our senior pupils preparing for prelims!  We created a little guide to help support you during this time. Check it out here:

  Action for Happiness

Research suggests that music can stimulate the body's natural feel good chemicals. It can help energise our mood and provide an outlet for us to take control of our feelings. Music can even help us work through problems in our lives.

Got a song that boosts your mood or motivation? Or helps you chill out after a long day? Click on the images below to suggest a song to be added to The Hub playlists and take a look at what has been requested by other Mearns Castle. Then all that's left to do is to grab your headphones and get those feel good chemicals flowing!
