Curriculum for Excellence is a 3 - 18 skills based curriculum which is designed to prepare our your learners with skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.
In all stages of Primary school there are eight curriculum areas:
Expressive arts
Health and wellbeing
Languages (including English and modern languages)
Mathematics
Religious and moral education
Sciences
Social studies
Technologies
In Primary 3 we use an enquiry-based learning approach using a range of contexts and resources to engage and motivate children's learning styles. Children have regular opportunities to direct their own learning based on their own interests. We take an innovative approach to the curriculum integrating digital technologies where possible.
Our learning environments enables and encourages children to become independent learners. On a daily basis, pupils will experience a balance of teacher led activities, related follow up tasks which are called targets and then opportunities to lead their play and learning in all curricular areas around the classroom.
The classrooms are calm environments with natural materials such as loose parts and wooden blocks. These open-ended materials enable children to use them in a variety of different ways to extend and elaborate their learning.
Some of the areas within the classroom are: Creative, Literacy, Enquiry, Discovery and Exploration, Teaching table and target areas.
Children each have their own cloakroom peg and boxes outside the classroom to place their school bags.

Children choose when to complete weekly targets over the course of the week. This offers opportunities for children to develop and practise skills in other curriculum areas. Children record when they have completed weekly targets in a variety of ways - ticking name, sticking up a symbol, putting a coloured lollipop stick in cups etc.
Some examples are highlighted below.
Each week the class are encouraged as part of the weekly challenges to visit the creative area. In this example the class are exploring different ways of mark making with paintbrushes.
Children investigating languages around the world and researching a fact they wish to share with class.
Each week the children complete a challenge.
In this example the children have to investigate different ways of cutting a paper plate that creates the longest length.
This provides children with the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills such as problem solving, creativity and critical thinking.
Most weeks homework will issued on a Tuesday and collected the following Monday. Homework will consist of a reading, spelling and numeracy task. This will be issued on Google Classroom.
Tuck is available to children from Primary 3. They access this through their account.
Children will eat their lunch in the Dining Hall.
