STOICH SMARTS is a 4-hour online chemistry mini-course that breaks down the essential concepts of stoichiometry -- the foundation of much of problem-solving in chemistry, and important for general and advanced biology and physics courses.
In just 2 live online sessions, you will learn about:
Unit conversions and molar ratios
Avogadro's number and molar mass
Empirical and molecular formulas
Limiting and excess reagents
Percent yields and chemistry-solving strategies
Grade 8 - 9 students studying, or getting ready for, chemistry
SHS or college students needing a clear and friendly refresher
STEM track learners and chemistry begninners
STEM entrance exam takers
College admission test reviewers
Anyone who wants a deeper grasp of chemistry fundamentals
Anyone who wants to strengthen their science foundation
Curious learners who say: "I kinda get it ... but not really"
2 Saturday sessions: August 2 and August 9
2 hours per session (4 hours total): 10 AM - 12 Noon
Live via Google Meet (no replay access)
SESSION 1: Unit Conversions, The Mole Concept, Empirical and Molecular Formulas
SESSION 2: Reaction Stoichiometry, Limiting and Excess Reagents, Percent Yield, General Solving Tips
Students will be able to, by the end of this course:
🔢 Convert between grams, moles, and particles using dimensional analysis
🧪 Calculate molar masses and apply the mole concept to real-world problems
📊 Determine empirical and molecular formulas from experimental data
⚖️ Identify the limiting and excess reagents in a chemical reaction
🎯 Compute the theoretical, actual, and percent yield of a reaction
🧠 Apply general problem-solving strategies to multi-step stoichiometry problems
🔍 Analyze where mistakes occur and how to correct them systematically
🧭 Build confidence in tackling Chemistry problems independently and critically

By enrolling in STOICH SMARTS: An Online Mini-Course on Stoichiometry, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
Full-Course Enrollment Only
Enrollment grants access to the entire 2-session mini-course. We do not offer single-session access or partial enrollment.
No Refunds After Course Start
Payments are non-refundable once the first session of the mini-course has commenced, regardless of attendance.
No Session Recordings Provided
Live attendance is required. No video recordings of the sessions will be made or distributed to students, including those who are absent.
🎯 Why We Require Full-Course Enrollment
The course is carefully designed as a complete learning sequence.
Each session builds on the last — concepts introduced in Session 1 (like unit conversions and the mole concept) are essential for success in Session 2 (reaction stoichiometry and percent yield). Attending only one session could lead to confusion or incomplete understanding.
We prioritize student progress over piecemeal attendance.
Our goal is not just to “expose” students to Chemistry topics, but to actually help them develop confidence and competence across interconnected ideas. That can’t be done halfway.
The full course encourages commitment and follow-through.
Students benefit most when they treat the mini-course as a short but focused program — not just a drop-in class. This also helps us maintain a serious and supportive learning environment.
It allows us to fairly allocate materials and instructor time.
Our resources, handouts, and support are all prepared with full-course students in mind. Offering partial access would affect the learning experience of those committed to the full program.
