The high school boys golf season is played during the spring in Nebraska. The spring season usually starts the last week of February or the first week of March. Tryouts for the golf team will not begin until the spring sports season begins.
The tryout process for the boys golf team is very competitive. Typically 14 players are selected to participate on the golf team. Coaches strive to keep an even balance of players between all grades 9-12. Players intending to tryout for the golf team should be as prepared as possible. Preparation should begin in the winter months with rules review, stretching, and swinging the club. Better prepared players have an increased chance of being selected for the team.
The tryout process for the boys golf team incorporates both knowledge of the game and playing ability. Players are expected to prove their knowledge of the game by satisfactorily completing a rules and knowledge test prior to proving their golf playing ability.
The following list outlines the tryout process.
1) Physical form on file with AD office and Athletic Registration completed here.
2) Sign up for a tryout. This can be done by first completing the sign up form on the homepage of this website and attending the preseason meeting as announced by the coaches or by contacting the head coach prior to the start of the spring season.
3) Study for the on-line rules and knowledge test. Coaches will give instructions on how and what to study for this test.
4) Satisfactorily complete the rules and knowledge test during the testing dates announced by the coaches.
5) Prove playing ability. Players will prove their playing ability by either hitting from the range or with on-course play as weather permits. Coaches will evaluate playing ability based on the following criteria: warm-up, grip, stance, swing, ball striking, attitude, and course management (if applicable).
6) Players will be informed by the head coach of their qualification for the team.
