Riverside Middle School
Student Photography Project
This project was made possible through a grant awarded by the Rhode Island Foundation to Riverside Middle School’s after school Photography Club Enrichment Program. Funding allowed students to visit and document historic sites of East Providence, participate in a tour of Hunt’s Mills through the East Providence Historical Society, and exhibit their findings at the East Providence Public Library.
An after school Introduction to Digital Photography course was offered over an eight week session for sixth-eighth graders in Spring, 2019. Students learned to evaluate and apply the National Core Art Standards: through creating in the medium of digital photography, connecting to local city history through a culminating field trip, responding to the juxtaposition of past and present life and lifestyle of their city, and presenting with a summative exhibition of their photographs.
