Writing:

Throughout the day, the children wrote down different facts that they had learnt. Have a look at our amazing facts!

The picture above shows the facts and information that a child in Hawking Class gathered throughout the day. The children worked very hard to develop their understanding of Ancient Greece.

The picture above shows the work of a child in Jemison Class. In Year 5, we were also learning about the meanings of words and how they are pronounced in Greek.

To start off the day, the children learnt about and created Olympic wreaths, which were created by the Ancient Greeks to symbolise victory.

The children worked in pairs to reconstruct a pyramid, which outlined the social hierarchy of Ancient Greece. The children also discovered that men were allowed to vote in Athens but women weren't How unfair is that!

After we learnt about the Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses, the children had the opportunity to create their own Greek shields, which had their chosen God's symbol on. How great do they look!

After making our shields, we were ready to practice democracy by voting on what type of traditional Greek food the children wanted to make in the afternoon. Tzatzikis won!

Tzatziki is a yoghurt based food that is often eaten as a starter. The children were given some garlic, mint and cucumber to put into their yoghurt to make the tzatziki. They had to grate their own cucumber - this was very messy but the children loved it! They ate their tzatziki with pitta bread. It was yummy!!

Throughout the day, we also listened to Greek music and danced along when we had the chance! It was so much fun.

Everyone in Year 5 had a great day and we can't wait until our next Topic Thursday!
