In this section, we will cover the Student Rights & Responsibility, Use of Technology, Locker Agreement, and Academic Integrity, and Cell Phone & Electronic Device Policy. All students will need to complete the signature agreement to indicate that he/she has read and understands the terms and conditions of each document.
At W.P. Wagner High School, we believe that all students have a right to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness by staff and other students. All students have a right to:
learn,
feel and be safe physically and emotionally,
enjoy a healthy and clean environment
All students will use school technology resources in an appropriate manner. This includes personal electronic devices (including cell phones, tablets, and computers) connected to the network. Students will: only use technology for educational related activities; adhere to copyright laws; not transmit material that is in violation of local, provincial or federal law; not access personal information files of other students or staff; use school approved software in compliance with licensing agreements; not create, view, display or send messages or pictures that are in appropriate for an education environment or may be offensive to others and adhere to class guidelines as outlined by the teacher. Violations of the acceptable use of technology agreement are subject to federal and provincial laws and will result in school discipline.
W.P. Wagner School makes lockers available for student use for the storage of belongings during the school day.
Please appreciate that having a locker is a privilege that we can provide to students who agree to use them responsibly.
Cheating is not acceptable. This includes plagiarism (copying someone else’s work and passing it off as your own), submitting AI-generated work as your own, copying, stealing tests or assignments and getting answers for a test or assignment in advance. Cheating also includes giving answers or work to others to claim as their own. Students suspected of plagiarism or cheating will be referred to the school administration and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
The primary objective of our policy is to ensure that students remain focused during instructional time while still allowing them to stay connected for essential communication. By establishing clear guidelines on the appropriate use of cell phone & electronic devices, we aim to promote responsible usage, respect for the learning environment, and the overall well-being of our student body.
We believe that schools should provide an environment where students can connect with their teachers and peers and to maximize their learning opportunities. For this reason, it is important for students to be in class and ready to work at the beginning of each period.Students are expected to attend all of their scheduled classes, on time, throughout the school year.
Regular attendance is strongly linked to student academic success and a student’s sense of belonging at school. The Education Act reminds parents and students that students are expected to attend school and be punctual every day. Students are only considered to be excused from attending school if they must be away due to:
sickness or other unavoidable cause
the day being recognized as a religious holiday by the religious denomination that the child belongs to
suspension or expulsion
Attendance and participation in class activities are directly related to success in school and is imperative for learning. W.P. Wagner staff will work with you and your parents/guardians to address attendance patterns should a concern arise, as per the attendance & lates policy.
Being prepared as a Warrior requires that students be in class on time.
It is expected that instruction will begin at the bell that signals the beginning of class, therefore, it is expected that you are prepared in your seat when the bell sounds at the beginning of each period.
School staff will work with you and your parents/guardians to address punctuality patterns should a concern arise, as per the attendance and lates policy.
At W.P. Wagner High School, students are expected to dress in a manner that reflects a welcoming respectful, inclusive, safe and healthy learning environment. Our expectations for student attire take into account a student’s right to fairness, dignity and respect, and will not discriminate against students based on race, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, socio-economic status, or body type. As examples, clothing items including, but not limited to, durags, turbans, hijabs and burkas are all acceptable and appropriate attire. Hats are also allowed at W.P. Wagner High School.
The W.P. Wagner Online School Store will open soon.
The possession or consumption of alcohol, tobacco or cannabis is not permitted on Edmonton Public Schools property, including parking lots and sports fields. This applies to, but not limited to, vapes, alcohol, tobacco, tobacco-like products and cannabis (including cigarettes, e-cigarettes and vaporizers). This will ensure that our buildings and property provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all students and staff. Violators may be subject to fines and school discipline.
To be considered a Grade 11 or 12 W.P. Wagner student, students must be taking at least 50% of their courses at W.P. Wagner School. This means if students are taking a course through Metro, South Alberta High School, Vista Virtual School, or through another institution, these are not considered W.P. Wagner courses.
Should a student be taking a diploma level course through these institutions, they will not be permitted to write their diploma exam at W.P. Wagner School. Arrangements will need to be made with the institution in which they are registered.
Should a student be taking less than 50% of their courses at W.P. Wagner School: they
will not be permitted to cross the stage or participate in the W.P. Wagner Commencement Ceremony or other graduation-related celebration.
will not be eligible for any W.P. Wagner awards. Course marks from other schools will not be considered for W.P. Wagner awards or honour roll.

By getting involved in our many school clubs, you will meet new friends, develop your leadership skills and, most importantly, create lasting high school memories. Take a look at what we offer and you will find that there really is something for everyone at W. P. Wagner.
The tradition of W.P. Wagner Athletics has been to instill key values in our students. Developing strong character in our students is far more important than the results on the court, field, track, mat, course or in the pool. The character and values we will be working to instill will not only apply to our athletic programs, but directly into the lives of our students. Strength, integrity, and excellence are virtues that all W.P. Wagner coaches and athletes will strive to demonstrate at every turn.
W.P. Wagner High School is committed to anti-racism. As a community of students and staff, we are committed to listening, hearing and learning from the voices of those who are being systematically excluded and disadvantaged. We will continue to foster diversity, inclusion, and cultural understanding throughout our school.
