The amiskwaciy Academy Invitational Basketball Tournament was first established in 2025.  It was created as a way to bring the community together in sport and culture.  It has always been a great way for teams to start their season and we look forward to hosting this event for many years to come. We are excited to have this become an annual thing here at amiskwaciy Academy

Dates

February 19-21, 2026 at amiskwaciy Academy High School located at 101 Airport Road, NW Edmonton 

Format

amiskwaciy Invitational is an 8 team, Oregon Draw guaranteeing each team 3 games of play for both senior varsity boys and girls teams.    

Opening Ceremonies 

Opening Ceremonies will occur on Thursday February 19th between 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Game Information 

• Home teams will wear white or light coloured uniforms.

• Home team is on the bottom bracket of the draw.

• Teams are asked to provide their own warm-up balls for the tournament.

Coaches Hospitality

amiskwaciy Academy High School will host a coaches and officials’ hospitality room for the duration of the tournament.  We appreciate the efforts and time of the coaches' and officials that attend.  We hope you get a chance to socialize with your colleagues and the coaches from various schools.

Trophies and Medals 

In addition to the team trophies, individual awards will be given out to the first, second and third place teams in the following categories:

-       Most Valuable Player

-       Most Sportsman-like Player

2 players (1 from Junior Boys divisional teams and 1 from Junior Girls divisional teams) will be selected as per “most” nomination ballots and will receive the:

                     -       “Most Valuable Player” for the tournament

                     -       “Most Sportsman-like Player” for the tournament

Eligibility

Participants / athletes must fit the following criteria to be eligible to play in the tournament:

-       Registered Aboriginal Person – First Nation, Metis, Inuit (proven status or other)

-       Proof of tribal lineage

-       Registered in high school and attending regularly. 

-            Under the age of 19 before September 2024.  

-       School approval (see forms attached)
