Professional Athlete
What lessons did you learn as an athlete that have served you well in your professional career?
I will just say upfront: A LOT, and still learning from it. One of the biggest things that has served me is the necessity to move forward quickly from mistakes and setbacks. Sports, especially team sports, move fast. In basketball there is constantly movement. And the best players are able to not stay stuck in past mistakes, because they will most certainly affect their current performance. Something I still repeat to this day is, "next play." We have to move on to the next play; the past is the past and you can't change it. But you CAN control what you do next. In other areas of my life, this is equally if not more important. I will make mistakes, I won't get it perfect. But that won't stop me from being willing to try my best again and willing to get it wrong.
If you could share one message or memory with current Titans what would it be?
Don't despise small beginnings. Be willing to learn from others and take yourself lightly. We can learn much from being a beginner at something new - both in skills and in mindset. So join different groups, go play intramural sports and activities, talk to people even if it scares you.
Your favourite memory as a Titan?
My favourite memories are from road trips with the teams - both volleyball and basketball. A lot of laughs and a lot of fun!
Anything else you would like to share?
I'm so grateful for the people - coaches, staff, family, friends - who've helped me on my athletic journey. John C. Maxwell said "If you want to go somewhere fast, go alone. If you want to go far, bring others with you."
