🐎 The Joy of Horseback Riding
Horseback riding is more than just a pastime — it’s a chance to connect with nature, appreciate the majesty and beauty of horses, and experience a sense of peace and freedom.
For those new to riding, it’s important not only to learn how to ride but also to become familiar with the basic terminology used around horses. Understanding this language helps new riders follow instructions, feel more confident, and get the most out of each lesson.
While you don’t need to know every term right away, learning the essentials is both useful and empowering. We introduce these basics during your very first lesson.
At Gritty Grace Farm & Livery, we take great care to evaluate each rider individually and help them progress at a pace that matches their skills and confidence. Proper advancement is critical, for the safety of both rider and horse, and we take that responsibility seriously to ensure a positive, rewarding experience.
Give your little one the joy of their very first horse experience in a fun, safe, and confidence-building way!
Young riders are gently led on a pony or miniature horse while seated in a specially designed saddle for maximum comfort and security. A parent or guardian is welcome to walk alongside for extra reassurance (closed-toe shoes required).
Each ride lasts about 15 minutes — the perfect length to create excitement without overwhelming young riders.
These rides are designed primarily for fun and early exposure to horses. If your child shows extra interest or readiness, you can chat with the instructor about “graduating” to our Mini Lessons for a more structured learning experience.
🐴 Intro Lessons – $45
Our Intro Lessons are 45 min and an ideal way for a rider to start their journey into the world of horses in a safe, encouraging, and fun environment.
Each rider begins on a lead line, giving them the security they need while learning the basics — from proper mounting and balance to the fundamentals of steering and stopping. As riders grow in confidence and skill, their instructor will decide when they’re ready to transition into private 30-minute (or longer) lessons for more independent riding.
Mini Lessons are the perfect foundation for any aspiring equestrian, building trust, confidence, and a love for horses that lasts a lifetime.
