Special Education

Elmwood Park Schools

The Elmwood Park Public School District’s Special Services Department is dedicated to developing the academic, social and emotional potential of all students.

The Special Services Department includes special education teachers and teacher aides, child study team members, speech/language specialists, physical and occupational therapy services and resource center programs and self-contained special education classes. This team provides educational programs for students with disabilities in partnership with regular education staff, administration and parents.

The families are vital in the educational process. Their input and insights about their children help us to understand and plan for the future of their child’s education.

The Child Study Team (CST) consists of school psychologists, school social workers, a learning disability teacher consultant (LDT-C) and full-time speech language therapists. The Team helps children who are demonstrating social, emotional, and/or learning problems which result in an educational disability. The Child Study Team also acts as a consultant for general education teachers and parents in other special needs situations.

The New Jersey Administrative Code (NJAC 6A:14) describes in detail all the services required and provided by the district through special services. NJAC 6A:14 can be obtained at the State of New Jersey Department of Education.
